Gap Collective/ Yes! Lecce

To call it a group exhibition of contemporary art is correct, but reductive. Because "Yes! Lecce" is more. It is the spin off of the U.S.-based Global Art Project movement, born in San Francisco more than 10 years ago on the initiative of California artist Carl Heyward. The international collective is joined by more than 70 artists from 40 different countries, 17 of whom are participating in the Lecce art residency on the sidelines of the exhibition. They collaborate together, making personal works, which flow into the "Collaborative future" project. Fragments of individual art contribute to works made by several hands according to the "Frags" creative process. The idea behind it is to share and contaminate expressive languages through the technique of collage, replacing creative individualism with new paradigms. The Gap makes creative experience available to communities through participatory workshops, for a new democracy of art. Third grade students from the Ammirato-Falcone Comprehensive Institute in Lecce will create works using the Gap method, which will be exhibited at the school. The Italian event is curated by Monica Lisi, Francesca Lamberti and Danilo Pastore, with the collaboration of Colleen Gianatiempo. Talks in the city with curators and resident artists are also planned.
