Visits to the church of Santa Maria di Ognibene ai Agostiniani

For those arriving in Lecce from the direction of Brindisi, the glance is remarkable. On the right, the ancient Urban Walls. On the left the complex of the Augustinians with the seventeenth-century church of Santa Maria di Ognibene. The name derives from the time when it was surrounded by a large fig grove and several pomegranate and citrus trees, and there were other types of plants: vines, oaks and cypresses. A garden that, at least in part, has now been restored to its original beauty and becomes a green walk in the heart of the city. On Easter and Easter Monday the cloister and the church of Santa Maria di Ognibene to the Agostiniani are also open and can be visited. The sacred building, although stripped of its decorations and furnishings over the centuries, has not lost its ancient and majestic charm given to it by the beautiful symmetry, the single nave and Latin cross and the various altars, some from the Baroque age and others from the nineteenth century.
The complex is open and can be visited from 10 to 13 and from 15 to 19.
Free admission.
