Visit to the Fairy Nymphaeum

Masseria Tagliatelle appears to be suspended in the void but rests on a spur of Lecce stone worn away by wind and time. On this 'urban rock' the rational and methodical hand of the quarrymen has not arrived, making the building appear like a ship aground in nothingness, a ship that conceals a very ancient and magical treasure: the Nymphaeum of the Fairies. It is said to date back to the 16th century, a time when this area was rich in water. The fairies are still there, corroded by humidity and forgetfulness, they have survived in their statuesque fixity inside six of the twelve niches carved out of the rock, but popular legend has it that they also roam the fields knocking on farmers' doors and petrifying them with a glance or, more benevolently, granting prodigies and 'acchiature' to the lucky ones. Today the Masseria, following an urban regeneration project involving the Ferrovia district, has become the ‘Stazione Ninfeo’, a reality that has restored the social function of this space, becoming a community hub with coworking spaces, a library and a refreshment point, open to meeting and discussion. The opportunity is therefore to visit the magical Nymphaeum thanks to Earth Srl, two days a week and by appointment.
