Impossible encounters/ Castromediano, Mazzarella e De Pace

Fascinating and 'aristocratic' stop for the 'Incontri impossibili' (Impossible encounters) event, which leads to the discovery of the City Club through a theatrical visit. And if these rooms could talk, they would probably tell of card games played until dawn and riches lost in a hand of baccarat. But here the aristocracy and the bourgeoisie meet in the Leccese Risorgimento with Sigismondo Castromediano, Bonaventura Mazzarella and Antonietta De Pace. Three personalities who contributed heroically to defending and affirming the values of freedom, homeland, democracy and civil friendship. It was Carlo Marulli, Neapolitan nobleman and Duke of San Cesario, who wanted the club. The origin of the imposing building dates back to the 16th century, when the complex that housed the Society of Jesus was erected right next to Palazzo Carafa. Over the years it underwent several extensions, including the large halls, the cloister and lush garden, the precious marble staircase and the airy wrought-iron verandas.
