Fai/Autumn Days

The Fai Autumn Days are tinged with the colours of the mild season, with the eagerly awaited openings of many private palazzos, historic gardens and places usually not accessible in the city, thanks to Fai volunteers and "Apprentice Tour Guides" from local schools. The eastern soul of the Salento is revealed, a melting pot of cultures and religions, an abbey, scriptorium and cultural centre, then a flourishing and productive masseria. Cerrate Abbey is narrated in its centuries-old history, admiring the portal where the cycle of the Virgin's life is sculpted, the cloister with its small columns with all different capitals and the 16th-century well with the sea monster dominating it. Within the opening hours, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., there are also two special appointments, at 11.15 a.m. and 12.15 p.m., with the route along 'Le vie dell'Olio' (The Oil Roads), to discover the flavour and aroma of some types of Apulian oils.
