Viva Calvin/ Under the jaguar sun

Viva Calvin/ Under the jaguar sun

The OgniBene community library celebrates the year already renamed Calvinian, since Italo Calvino was born a century ago, precisely on Oct. 15, 1923. To mark the occasion, every last Friday of the month it hosts "Viva Calvino," a meeting in which readings from the works of what is rightly considered one of the greatest Italian writers of the 20th century are shared and there is free dialogue. The second event features the voice of Giulia Maria Falzea, author and cultural worker, who reads "Under the Jaguar Sun." "The book I am writing is about the five senses, to show that contemporary man has lost the use of them," Calvino writes. "My problem in writing this book is that my sense of smell is not very developed, I lack auditory attention, I am not a gourmet, my tactile sensitivity is approximate, and I am nearsighted. For each of the five senses I have to make an effort to master a range of sensations and nuances. I don't know if I will succeed, but in this case as in the others my goal is not so much to make a book as to change myself, a goal that I think should be that of every human endeavor."

Free admission.
