Story time/ From head to toe

To celebrate the International Month of Play, every week throughout November, the OgniBene creative library hosts a read aloud meeting for "The Story Hour": a story to interact with, a book to handle. This week's meeting features "From head to toe", one of Eric Carle's best-known books, published by La Margherita. It is a book for children at the age at which they begin to be interested in the various parts of the body, with the explicit aim of provoking in them the desire to move each part, from head to toe. The message conveyed by the text "Yes, I can!" is a hymn to self-esteem and stimulates autonomy. The technique of the illustrations is typical Carle, with collage animals made from previously painted paper. The intention is to make the book interactive, encouraging the physical involvement of children, who are known to love movement. Animals and children thus challenge each other in a game of imitation as each animal proposes its own peculiar mode of movement: the child is able to reproduce them all, until the final surprise confrontation.
