La fortuna/ Valeria Parrella

La fortuna/ Valeria Parrella

"The course was easy: to go where no one would go. Sailing toward the cloud I realized that we were enraptured by it, drawn to it as if behind an enchantment. The cloud was not made of water, it made it rain, yes: but it rained ash, the same as that which remains at the end of the evening in the braziers." Lucius is only seventeen years old and is following Pliny the Elder on the day of the eruption that destroyed Pompeii. History, the one with a capital S, is interwoven with the novel in Valeria Parrella's book "The Fortune," along with a crowd of characters, merchants, bankers, matrons, emperors, slaves, prostitutes and gods. The author presents the book together with Elisabetta Liguori and Fabio Fabrizio in the Augustinian Cloisters for the review curated by the Cultural Department "Augustinian Books."
