Extra Convitto / The census of the street lamps

The third edition of the Extra Convitto review, born in full pandemic with the intention of exploiting the open spaces of the former Palmieri Convitto to give a chance to express the creative needs of the cultural actors of the territory, hosts the presentation of “The census of lampposts” (Laurana publisher) by Carmelo Vetrano from Brindisi. Livio Romano talks with the author about a first work that represents a journey in search of oneself. The protagonist Sebastiano returns from abroad to his small town in Puglia. The occasion is the hearing for the separation from his wife Magda. He finds a curious job as a street lamp censor, along with his unemployed father who abandoned him as a child. The old misunderstandings are exacerbated by the beginning of a relationship between his father and ex-wife Magda. Meanwhile Sebastiano meets Lisa, a young artist, author of the "maps of the days", short sentences with which he describes his days. The idea of transforming the cards of the street lamps into little tales comes to him. Thanks to all these stories, Sebastiano manages to make peace with the memories of the past.
