Extra Convitto / Journey to Puglia

"The God of the Jews did not know Apulia, otherwise he would not have given his people Palestine as a promised land". With these words of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia begins the "Journey to Puglia" (Rizzoli publisher) by the writer and poet from Bari Raffaello Mastrolonardo, translated into several languages and winner of the Moscow, City of Verona and Puglia Book Fest awards. Mastrolonardo sets out to discover his region through the eyes of a lover, following a royal itinerary from north to south, in the three lands of Puglia: Capitanata, Terra di Bari and Terra d'Otranto. The result is a surprising series of discoveries through the stories of a territory and of the people who, coming from the East as well as the West, have crossed it and enriched it with their cultures and traditions. From the Neolithic to Magna Graecia, from the Romans to the Goths, from the Arabs to the Lombards. And again, from the Byzantines to the Normans, from the Swabians to the French Angevins and finally to the Spanish Aragonese. Speaks with the author Maria Agostinacchio for the third edition of the Extra Convitto review of this evocative tour between past and present, between scents and suggestions, between men and legends, to the point of touching the most intimate soul of Puglia.
