"Ussìgnur, to put it in the Milanese way," was the reaction of Milan Mayor Beppe Sala on the chat of Italy's mayors that evening of March 9, 2020, on the eve of the press conference in which Giuseppe Conte announced the lockdown. That message, in the chat that had been simmering for hours, was followed by those of Dario Nardella, mayor of Florence: "Just calm down. The important thing is the chain of command. This is how it is done in war: there are generals, colonels and foot soldiers," and then Decaro, first citizen of Bari: "And we are now the soldiers."
