Candida Rosa

May is the month of roses and also of the promotion of reading. And directly connected to “Il Maggio dei Libri” is the review “Il castello delle rose”, edited by “Through the castle” in collaboration with the Archaeological Superintendency. On four Sundays in May, the parade ground of the Charles V Castle hosts the presentation of as many books with content linked to the history of Lecce and its territory.
In the inner courtyard of the castle there is talk of “Candida rosa” (Esperidi Edizioni), written by Simona De Riccardis. In 1619 in Lecce the twelve-year-old Cesare Penna left his family for the workshop of master Antonio, a well-known sculptor. Cesare spent years of training among books and tools as a sculptor, among the attentions of Sara, daughter of master Antonio, and the memory of the noble Portia, seen only once and never forgotten. The author converses with Giuseppe Corianò, a philosophy teacher and writer.
