Augustinian books/ Valentina. Diary of a fake suicide

Augustinian books/ Valentina. Diary of a fake suicide

23.9 percent of homicides in Italy remain unsolved cases. These are the so-called "cold cases." This was not the case for 19-year-old Valentina Salamone, who was found hanged in 2010 in a small villa in Adrano, a town just outside Catania. What had all the air of a sad juvenile suicide and as such was about to be dismissed, was not at all convincing to Carlo Romano, commander of the molecular biology section of the Ris of Messina and author of "Valentina. Diary of a Fake Suicide," published by Golem. His doubts, shared by the Prosecutor General's Office, led to the solution of the case, through technical-scientific findings and especially DNA tests. It was murder, by the Adranite Nicola Mancuso, with whom Valentina allegedly had an affair. Romano dwells on the investigator's moods, emotions, doubts, and sense of justice in doing his job. For the Agostiniani libri review, Patrizia Cretì, UniSalento professor of comparative anatomy, criminalist Luca Chianelli and remotely journalist Simone Toscano will dialogue with the author.
