"I am in the library, waiting. No, I am not waiting for a book to be delivered, not least because I am in a covered square with huge windows overlooking the sea and, in the middle, a 7.5 metre long bronze tube hanging from the ceiling. The work of art is actually a gong, made by artist Kirstine Roepstorff, which chimes every time a baby is born in the city. This chime spreads throughout the building and everyone knows that a few minutes before, a new life has entered the community: what else can generate trust in the world we live in than a small being coming among us? The gong of Dokk1, the library in Aarhus, Denmark, demonstrates better than anything else why libraries are necessary, vital parts of the social infrastructure: because by their very existence they create trust in tomorrow'. A tireless traveller among people and books, her favourite destinations are the piazzas of knowledge, the places of shared knowledge, in Italy and around the world. Antonella Agnoli, former Councillor for Culture, Creativity and Cultural Heritage of the Municipality of Lecce, presents her latest literary work 'La casa di tutti. Cities and libraries'.
