Agostiniani Libri/ Dixieland

Agostiniani Libri/ Dixieland

The garden of the Biblioteca Ognibene hosts the pages of "Dixieland" (Florestano), by Claudio Lodoli. The story is set in the United States of America at the time of the War of Secession. On 9 April 1865, the conflict ends with the surrender of the Confederacy, after four terrible years, strewn with death and devastation. A young Confederate fighter returns home and struggles to understand that there is nothing left of his former life. It is only after twenty years of mixed fortunes that he achieves success in journalism. His popularity allows him to meet old General Ulysses Grant, who tells him about the secret meeting at the White House with Robert Lee, the commander of the Confederate troops. Torn between his moral duty to maintain silence and his desire to tell the truth, he reluctantly accepts the proposal of a San Francisco theatre impresario. On the evening of the last performance, something unexpected once again disrupts his destiny.
